Students planning to audition for level A should have completed or be in the process of completing advanced-level classical ballet syllabus in a pre-professional ballet training program and should be taking ballet technique and other classes at least 5 days per week. 

Audition applications will be accepted between Monday, January 2 and Friday, March 3, 2017. Applicants will be notified by email two to three weeks after submitting their audition of whether or not they have been accepted into the program. Registration information will subsequently be sent by email; registration must be completed by March 24, 2017. Students who are not accepted into Level A may still register for levels B & C.

Audition applications can be completed online (recommended) or by downloading the paper version of the form and submitting by mail.

  • Your contact information
  • Information about your current and prior dance training
  • Program preference (three or five weeks)
  • Whether or not you plan to apply for Ballet 5:8 housing and/or financial aid
  • A link to your audition video (instructions below)

You'll also need to upload: 

  • A headshot photograph
  • A first arabesque photograph (en pointe for ladies, en relevéfor gentlemen)

Audition Fee

Once you complete the application, you will need to pay your $30 audition fee. You can submit via the link below using any major credit card.


Students currently enrolled in Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts Pre-Professional Programs and Ballet 5:8's Trainee Program may register with the approval of their program director, no audition required.

Audition applications must include a short class video including the following exercises. Videos should be filmed within 3 months of submission. Videos may not be longer than three minutes in length. Please include the following exercises in the video:

  • Plies
  • Tendus
  • Adage (in center)
  • Grand allegro
  • Pirouettes en pointe in center (if applicable)

Performance videos are not acceptable in lieu of the video. Videos should be filmed in an unobstructed, clearly lit area. Videos should be uploaded to a video sharing site such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc. for submission.
