AcroDance will be offered at Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts beginning Fall 2018.
With the premiere of our new Contemporary Ballet "Love Is..." approaching, I'm sure you've had many questions including: What are the costumes? What will the music sound like? Is there even a story?
Why are summer dance classes so important?
Common thought around boys and dance says that boys won’t gain anything from dance lessons, that they will be subjected to "girly" princess games and pink tutus, or that lessons will simply be a waste of time. However, this couldn’t be any further from the truth! Ballet and other forms of dance are not just for girls; they can help girls and boys alike develop physically and mentally.
Thanks to Ms. Christina for this great overview of the history, use and mechanics of tap dancing!
Modern dance technique was founded in the 20th century by pioneers including Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis, and Ted Shawn. Each of these artists and choreographers wanted to explore a freedom and emotional expression of dance that differed from the very popular style of the time, ballet. The exploration took place within the different technical approaches, costumes, venues, and music.
You may have heard the term Hip Hop before, but do you know what it is? New this semester, Ms. Christina is teaching hip hop classes in the Youth Dance Division. If you aren't familiar with this dance style yet, it's time to brush up!
Youth Dance Division Director Ms. Christina Perry explains the dance style of jazz and a little of its history.
It's registration season at Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts for Fall Semester classes, and it's not too late to get in on the fun! We have classes for every age group, starting with Mommy & Me classes for ages 2-3 and going all the way up to....yes, adult classes in ballet and PiYo. Taking ballet as an adult may not have come to your mind previously, but it is actually quite popular (offered by most bigger ballet companies that have dance education programs) and can be a great form of exercise.
