Pilates has six main principles: concentration, centering, control, breathing, precision, and flow. In working on these things we become more aware of our bodies and thus how to move in a more optimal way. As creator Joseph Pilates said, “The Pilates Method teaches you to be in control of your body not at its mercy,” and, it “develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.” Pilates is for everyone, and with private individualized sessions, your specific needs and goals will always be accommodated. No prior experience is required.
Certified Pilates Instructor
Growing up in San Antonio, Texas, Beth Patterson's love of movement and kinesthetic awareness developed from a young age. She started practicing Pilates as a supplement to her ballet training over 10 years ago. After moving to Chicago to dance professionally with Ballet 5:8, she started her pilates training with Erin Johnson's Pilates Artistry Comprehensive Training Program and graduated in 2017. During her certification, Beth completed 600 hours of training in Pilates Mat, Reformer, Wunda Chair, Cadillac, Barrels, and Props. Beth now teaches Pilates throughout the Chicagoland area in both group and private settings, including in the Ballet 5:8 Pre-Professional, Conservatory, and Trainee programs. After seeing incredible benefits from the practice of Pilates - personally in her own life and professional career, as well as in the lives of many others from all backgrounds and walks of life - she is always excited to share the benefits of Pilates with others!
