Making Progress

Ballet 5:8 Conservatory Student, Sofia JaBaay shares about becoming her character in Pilgrim’s Progress.

Ballet 5:8 Company Artist Elizabeth Marlin

Who are you dancing as in Pilgrim’s Progress this year?
The Mayor, Lady Demas.

What has been the most interesting or challenging part about portraying your character?
For me, the challenging part has always been trying to relate my feelings to the audience but also telling the story through mime.

Which scene is your favorite and why?
I really enjoy the entrance of Lady Demas. I love how fast-paced, smooth, and sassy the movement is. There are a lot of fun turns and jumps that have complex musicality. I love the challenge!

Describe the movement style of your character.
Sharp and sassy.

Why should audiences come to see Pilgrim’s Progress?
If you want to see beautiful dancing, heartfelt storytelling, lovely artistry, and this classic Christian allegory brought to life through dance, come see Pilgrim's Progress.
