Biography
Miranda Rubio Opsal has been a beloved staple of the School of Ballet 5:8's teaching staff since 2017.
Rubio Opsal hails from Michigan originally and has been dancing since a young age. She received her classical ballet education at the School of Ballet 5:8 initially by attending Summer Intensives starting in 2012. In 2015 Rubio Opsal moved to join the Conservatory Program, graduating in 2017. Inspired by the profound impact Ballet 5:8 made on her early training she declined opportunities to train elsewhere and continued into Ballet 5:8's Trainee Program. Rubio Opsal graduated from the Trainee Program with High Honors in 2020 and became an Apprentice with the company. In 2021 she was promoted to Company Artist and continues to tour and perform with Ballet 5:8.
Since becoming a Co-Director of the Pre-Professional and Ensemble Program in 2020 Rubio Opsal has worked tirelessly to elevate the quality of dance training for young dancers while fostering a warm and nurturing environment for her students. Graduates of her teaching have been accepted into many university and college programs as well as being admitted to Summer and Year Round programs at Orlando Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and School of American Ballet. Many of these are awarded partial or full-merit scholarships. Her students have also been awarded scholarships from foundations supporting talented young artists such as the Fox Valley Ballet 2024 Scholarship.
Rubio Opsal has taught masterclasses across Chicago-land and nationwide. She is certified to teach every level of Julianna Rubio Slager's trademark Vaganova-based syllabus. She has also been certified in Progressing Ballet Technique since 2020. Rubio Opsal leads the School of Ballet 5:8's Teacher Training Program and works with her staff to mentor and empower aspiring teachers to hone their skills to become the next generation of highly effective, yet caring, dance educators. As both a teacher and a leader Rubio Opsal is dedicated to helping students reach their dance goals while caring for them as individuals.
