Miranda Rubio | Beyond the Nutcracker Character Interview
It’s time to celebrate our Fifth Anniversary performances Beyond the Nutcracker this December! Ballet 5:8’s twist on the holiday classic leads to story of the very first Christmas and takes us on a journey around the world as we see impact of the birth of Jesus in every culture. We’ve asked a few of the Studio Company and Guest Artist dancers featured in the performance to share about their role and what they enjoy most about dancing in this joy-filled ballet.

Q. What is your name, age and where are you from?
A. My name is Miranda Rubio I'm 20 and I'm from Spring Arbor, Michigan.
Q. What is your role in Beyond the Nutcracker?
A. One of my roles in Beyond the Nutcracker is the English Rose Queen. Often known as Dewdrop in other Nutcrackers, our story gives her a little more depth in that she is reminiscent of Queen Elizabeth II who was the reigning monarch of England during World War II, when our Nutcracker is set.
Q. What do you enjoy most about this role?
A. It's just fun. I don't always get the opportunity to wear a pink dress put on a crown and dance pretty steps to pretty music. It's what every little girl gets into ballet for. As much as I love neo-classical or contemporary ballets, there's still this six year old inside of me who looks at that satin dress and jeweled crown and goes "Oh yes, this is magical!"
