Creating The Dreamer | Michelle Acke

School of Ballet 5:8 student Michelle Acke shares about becoming her character in The Dreamer, which premieres May 28 at Lincoln-Way West High School.

Q: Who is your character in The Dreamer?

A: Patisserie chef

Q: What has been the most interesting or challenging part about portraying your character?

A:  The "Jail Pas de Deux" is the most challenging part for me artistically. Working with two other very technical dancers pushes me to rise up and tell the story alongside them.

Q: Which scene is your favorite and why?

A: My favorite scene in this ballet is the ending piece, “Nation of Israel,” because many different levels dance together for a final closing to this extraordinary ballet. The corps de ballet, with so many people onstage, is beautiful.

Q: Why do you think audiences should see The Dreamer?

A:  It Is a beautiful ballet full of many different styles, from classical to contemporary, and lots of different music and costumes.

The Dreamer is choreographed by Julianna Rubio Slager and co-choreographed by instructors at the School of Ballet 5:8. See it May 28-29, 2022 at Lincoln-Way West High School in New Lenox, IL.
