Inside Ballet 5:8’s Summer Intensive: A Positive, Nurturing Approach to Professional Growth
For young dancers, summer intensives are a pivotal part of pre-professional training. But not all programs prioritize both artistry and student well-being. At Ballet 5:8, we are committed to providing a summer intensive that not only enhances technical skills but also fosters personal growth in a safe, supportive environment.
What Makes Ballet 5:8’s Summer Intensive Unique? Each day at Ballet 5:8’s summer intensive is carefully designed to balance physical challenges with mental support. Classes are led by experienced faculty who are committed to each student’s well-being, creating an environment that encourages growth without sacrificing health or balance.
“Ballet 5:8’s Summer Intensive is more than just technique—it’s a chance for students to experience growth in an environment where they feel supported, seen, and valued. We don’t just want great dancers; we want great people who bring their best selves to the studio and beyond.”
- Julianna Rubio Slager
What a Typical Day Looks Like: Students begin with a morning technique class followed by pointe class, pas de deux or variations. After lunch, dancers focus on rehearsals, repertoire, strength training, rhythmic movement styles and personal development sessions, where dancers discuss mental resilience, injury prevention, and self-care.
“This summer at Ballet 5:8 changed my dancing so much. I learned so much about my technique, but I also gained confidence in myself as a person. I’ve never been in a program where everyone, from the teachers to my fellow students, was so supportive.” — Sarah, age 16
Our approach to training emphasizes self-confidence, resilience, and camaraderie. Students leave feeling stronger, both as dancers and as individuals.
