Meet the Choreographer | Lilianne Harding

Ballet 5:8 Trainee Lilianne Harding is another choreographer presenting her work at the Student Produced Showcase, Joy in the Journey. Lilianne is excited to share her second piece of choreography, entitled “To Be Heard.” This work is about the human experience of going through different internal struggles. The dance explores the mentality that we are alone in our struggles and the desire to reach out for help.

At the beginning of the piece, the four dancers portray that they are struggling and are too afraid to ask for help or to share what they are going through. Towards the end, however, they realize they are not alone in their struggles and are actually surrounded by a loving community. Lilianne explained that we as Christians are called to have community–to mourn together and to celebrate with one another. We are not alone in our struggles.

This piece is special to Lilianne because the music is composed by one of her close friends, Jack Hollis III. She enjoys the collaboration that can happen between artists: from musician, to choreographer, to dancer. Lilianne explained that her favorite part of the process has been “seeing emotions turn into movement.” She has enjoyed watching how the concept has come to life through movement and music.

Come see “To Be Heard” at the showcase on Thursday, October 6th at 5:30PM!
