Meet the Choreographer | McKenna Palmer
Ballet 5:8 Studio Company member McKenna Palmer is our last choreographer presenting her work at the Student Produced Showcase, Joy in the Journey. McKenna is excited to share her very first piece of choreography, called “Escape Tomorrow.” This is a contemporary piece inspired by the friendships in McKenna’s life, and the ways in which her friends have positively impacted her in many areas. McKenna has thoroughly enjoyed this process, and she has explained that being able to choreograph in Thursday’s show is a “dream come true!”
A large part of McKenna’s creative process is experimentation. To set movement, she has either taken videos of herself or collaborated with the dancers to see what makes the most sense to their bodies. She enjoyed bringing ideas to the studio and letting movement flow naturally throughout the group as they were experimenting. In McKenna’s words, “Sometimes the best things come when you don’t even think about it, but then you realize that is exactly what you need!”
Mckenna would like to thank her two best friends, Abigail and Kristina, because this piece was inspired by their loyal friendship. You won’t want to miss McKenna’s debut piece on Thursday, October 6th!
