Making Progress

Ballet 5:8 Trainee, Elayne Podolske shares about becoming her character in Pilgrim’s Progress.

Ballet 5:8 Company Artist Elizabeth Marlin

Who are you dancing as in Pilgrim’s Progress this year?
I will be portraying the role of Ms. Worldly Wise.

What has been the most interesting or challenging part about portraying your character?

One challenging but also a fun part of playing this role has been exploring comedic timing in my dancing. I've really enjoyed getting into character and playing off the energy from my fellow dancers.

Which scene is your favorite and why?

It's so hard to pick a favorite scene! If I had to pick it would be when Worldly Wise and her pal Ignorance run into Christian and Evangelist on the road The Hill of Redemption. They try to convince them to jump the fence and take a shortcut!

Describe the movement style of your character.

The movement style for my character changes as the ballet progresses. In the beginning, it's soft and classical then it becomes more dynamic and ends with a hint of Argentinian tango!

Why should audiences come to see Pilgrim’s Progress?

Pilgrim's Progress has a beautiful score, inspiring choreography, dazzling costumes and a truly life-changing story. I think that everyone in the audience will find a part of the story that they can relate to and reflect on in their own lives.
