Creating The Dreamer | Elizabeth Tjia
Ballet 5:8 Trainee Elizabeth Tjia shares about becoming her character in The Dreamer, which premieres May 28 at Lincoln-Way West High School.
Q: Who is your character in The Dreamer?
A: My character is Judah, one of Joseph’s brothers.
Q: What has been the most interesting or challenging part about portraying your character?
A: There is so much to the story of Joseph and being really clear in the emotion and story that I’m trying to communicate with my character can be slightly challenging. However, it has been a fun challenge to experiment and to develop my character in the way Judah interacts with Joseph and the rest of his family.
Q: Which scene is your favorite and why?
A: One of my favorite scenes is when Rueben, Simeon, and Judah dance with Joseph right before he is sold to slavery. The music to this piece has a fun rhythm and the miming at the end of the piece has some humor to it.
Q: Why do you think audiences should see The Dreamer?
A: Joseph’s story is a wonderful reminder that God can turn any situation that seems hopeless into a beautiful example of His goodness and faithfulness. Even in moments where we feel completely alone and nobody seems to see our situation, God sees us. He meets us where we are at and in His timing he is able to turn what was meant for evil into good.
