Jessica Says:
As dancers it can be all too easy to focus on the negative parts of our own dancing and let this taint the way that we look at ourselves.
When I was younger, I would often be so bothered by the mistakes I made in performances that I would let that overshadow the actual joy of performing. We’ve all been there - at the end of a night of performing, all the things that did not go well in a show would replay in our minds. This kind of mindset can easily take away from the things that did go well!
The more I have opportunities to perform in my career the more I learn that gratitude is the perfect remedy to this kind of negative thinking.
Performing is such a gift and a privilege! Whether it is one of my strongest performances or a weaker one, each one is a gift. The more I recognize this, the more I can take joy in these fleeting moments and the more I have to offer the audience. Instead of letting mistakes replay in your mind, think back to the moments on stage you’re thankful for and practice gratitude!
