The mission of Ballet 5:8 is to engage audiences in Chicago, the Midwest, and the nation in conversation of life and faith through innovative storytelling and breathtaking dance.

Ballet 5:8 Studio Company members experience and take part in this mission firsthand, performing original repertoire in a variety of traditional and non-traditional settings. As Studio Company members, dancers perform throughout the season with the Ballet 5:8’s professional company, and at events like Youth America Grand Prix. Dancers develop agility, consistency and artistry in addition to technique. Dancers also gain insight into the life of professional dancer through the rigorous class, rehearsal and performance schedule of the Studio Company.

Performance Opportunities

School of Ballet 5:8 Productions

Studio Company dancers are cast in corps, soloist and principal roles in the School of Ballet 5:8’s two annual full-length productions: Beyond the Nutcracker in December, and a full length ballet each spring. Past original works include Pilgrim’s Progress, Wayward Daughter, The Toymaker and Love Is. Studio Company dancers experience life similar to that in a professional setting - performing multiple roles in these performances and gaining extensive experience in all aspects of performing in full-length works. School of Ballet 5:8's full-length ballets are attended by more than 3,000 audience members from across the Chicagoland area each year.

Outreach Performances

Studio Company members also perform classical and contemporary repertoire at Youth America Grand Prix, Dance Chicago and throughout the local community. This is an avenue to gain additional experience not only learning various kinds of repertoire, but performing in a variety of settings and sharing the joy of dance and meaningful stories on life and faith topics with those around us. Outreach performance venues range from workshops and performances in local libraries and schools to the annual outdoor Summer Dance Celebration in downtown Chicago.
